About
Hi! I’m Margo
I am currently a Neighbor Navigator, working for a Non-profit organization in Paris, Texas under the auspices of AmeriCorps. I wanted to be of service to a local community, I genuinely love people and am concerned with their plight, while working with the homeless, I was able to use my skills in the culinary arts to support their mission, coaching and training support personnel.
What I am most passionate about my position is that I get to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Bringing light into the darkest of situations. Feeding the homeless a nourishing hot meal fulfills a basic need everyone has. I can make a difference to that one person, on a single day, to call them by name, to give them a smile, to show I care, and to give them a hug or words of encouragement.
My hunger and thirst for knowledge began very early, I was a good student and took advanced studies in Middle School and High School. I would later complete my Associates Degree in Dietetics in 1998, and in 1999 I obtained another Associates Degree in the Culinary Arts. Food sciences and food production had been a developing passion while raising seven sons and one Sarah. I’ve had many amazing positions, private chef, food service director, dietetic intern, and even developed a closed-circuit cooking show in a “Big Box” store. I consider my biggest personal accomplishments my children and grandchildren.
This opportunity to go to the Alaskan Bush has been a dream come true. We live so incredibly far from any of my sons and their families, and I miss those glory days of hustle and bustle, chatter and splatter. Now, I get to be with my son and his family, while being a chef/baker for a remote team of construction workers. It’s truly the best of both worlds.
